Both World Cup semi-finals kick off at 7am NZT — and one of them, plus the final, is on TVNZ 1 free-to-air. The All Whites are out of the tournament, but for New Zealand fans the schedule lands the country’s most-watched football matches of the year on a midweek morning with no commute, no midnight, and no overnight.

The simplest read: set the alarm for 7am Wednesday (SF1) and 7am Thursday (SF2), and don’t pay anything to watch SF2 or the Final on TVNZ 1. SF1 and the third-place play-off need the TVNZ+ Event Pass.
Why 7am Works
NZ Herald’s guide to the semi-finals frames the kickoff times as a treat: "Kickoffs vary from as early as 4am – but majority are between 8am and 4pm" (NZ Herald, 14 Jul). The 7am start lands in prime morning-slot territory — after the early commute, before work starts in earnest. A second-half red card, a stoppage-time goal, an extra-time winner: all live in real time, with the day’s tasks still ahead.
Compared with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where several matches kicked off at 1am or 3am NZT, the 2026 schedule is built for daylight viewing in the southern winter. The All Whites’ group games were 1pm, 1pm and 3pm NZT; the SFs land two hours earlier.
The Two Matches, Briefly
